Responsible gaming
If you play at all, keep it a footnote to the holiday.
Where bisreydplay stands
We cover hotels, and nudging anyone toward a bet is no part of our purpose. All ten resorts justify the journey even if their casinos stay unvisited. If you still intend to play, these habits make it easier to stay in charge.
Habits that help
- First confirm the minimum gambling age in the country you are visiting; it varies and staff routinely ask for ID.
- Set an affordable loss ceiling ahead of time and keep bank cards in the room safe.
- Agree a stop time with yourself and step off the floor regularly.
- Treat money lost as gone for good; chasing it, or borrowing to keep going, digs deeper.
- Skip the tables when exhausted, upset or after a few drinks.
Red flags
Overshooting your limit, keeping your betting secret from family or friends, or growing tense on days without it can mean control is slipping. Plenty of resorts let guests ban themselves from the gaming area; the front desk or guest relations team can arrange it.
Help that costs nothing
- Gambling Therapy: multilingual online counselling and chat, available worldwide (gamblingtherapy.org).
- Gamblers Anonymous: fellowship meetings held across a large number of countries (gamblersanonymous.org).
- Gam-Anon (gam-anon.org): support for the relatives and close friends of a person with a gambling problem.
- Your local helpline: most nations fund a discreet, no-cost service; your doctor or nearest health centre will know the number.
