Staying at Nüwa Macau at City of Dreams

Nüwa borrows its name from the figure of Chinese myth who patched a broken heaven, and the hotel leans into that sense of calm restoration. It is the most private of the towers inside City of Dreams, the Melco-run complex on the Cotai Strip, and it went by Crown Towers before a change of name. Rooms are dressed in soft neutrals with deep tubs and tall windows, and upper floors gaze across the glowing Cotai skyline toward the green hills of Taipa.

Leave the lifts and the rest of City of Dreams is close at hand: the curving steel exoskeleton of Morpheus, drawn by Zaha Hadid Architects, rises next door, and Jade Dragon cooks refined Cantonese dishes under the same roof. A spa and a shopping arcade fill the slower hours. Taipa Village, where pastel colonial houses line lanes such as Rua do Cunha and bakeries press almond cookies, needs only a brief taxi hop. It stands among the cluster of hotels in Stateline, Nevada, a few paces from the California border.
