9h Nine Hours Takebashi

Tokyo, Japan

Nine hours: a shower, a full night, a morning routine. The brand's name is the whole plan.

Takebashi is a quiet business pocket in Chiyoda, beside the moats and gardens around the Imperial Palace. The station of the same name is a couple of minutes away.

Pods are white, moulded and softly lit, with a sleep-tuned lighting system. Showers, washbasins and lockers are shared and immaculate. Signs are sparse; the design does the explaining.

Good to know Space for large suitcases is tight, and quiet hours are enforced.

Yotel Istanbul Airport

Istanbul, Turkey

No transfer, no taxi. The cabins are inside the terminal itself.

Yotel built this hotel for layovers, red-eyes and missed connections. Rooms can be reserved for a few hours or a full night.

Cabin design borrows from first-class aircraft seating: motorised beds, clever storage, colour-shifting lighting. Most cabins include their own rain shower. Daylight is not the selling point — rest is.

Good to know One section is airside, one landside. Check which one your ticket and passport situation allow.

The Hoxton Williamsburg Pocket Rooms

New York, United States

The smallest rooms at a big, sociable Brooklyn hotel.

The Hoxton opened in Williamsburg in 2018, a few blocks from the East River. Its lobby fills with laptops by day and drinks by night; up top, a roof terrace frames Manhattan.

Its compact rooms are planned like a boat cabin. A full-size bed, open hanging rails instead of a wardrobe, a small but well-designed bathroom. Not much else fits, and that's the deal.

Everything the hotel offers downstairs and upstairs is shared with every guest. Bedford Avenue and the L train are close.
